Finding Motivation (For Your Dog)
Figuring out what motivates your dog can take a bit of trial and error, but here are some places to start:
Food rewards: Many dogs are motivated by food rewards, so try offering your dog small treats or pieces of their favorite food when they perform a desired behavior.
Toys and playtime: Some dogs are more motivated by playtime than food. Try using their favorite toys as a reward for good behavior or as a training tool.
Environment: Some dogs are motivated by their environment, such as being able to explore new sights and smells, or being able to play with other dogs. Has your dog ever chased birds? Birds excitedly flying away can be the motivator!
Trial and error: Every dog is different, so it may take some experimentation to figure out what motivates your dog. Try offering different types of rewards and see which ones your dog responds to best.
Remember that motivation can also vary based on the situation, so what motivates your dog in one scenario may not work in another. By observing your dog's behavior and experimenting with different rewards, you can find what works best for your furry friend!
