Cue vs. Command
Command has such an ick-factor to it. In modern dog training, the term "cue" is preferred over "command" because it emphasizes a more positive and collaborative approach, aligning with positive reinforcement methods. "Cue" suggests a signal for a desired behavior, promoting communication and understanding between the dog and owner. “Cue” also designates there is option to opt-in… agency if you will. Dogs, and cats!, are sentient beings and should have a choice in their life.
Command has such an ‘or else’ vibe to it. Again, ick. I can’t even.
Our words matter. Let’s be careful, and intentional, in how we use them.
P.S. - We are also done using ‘owner’ 😜
