Basic First Aid Items

As always, check with your veterinarian! This is a basic first aid kit idea for dogs. Most cities and towns are within a quick drive to a veterinarian’s office, Urgent or Emergency care facility. If you are traveling, nomadic, or planning to spend time somewhere rural with your pet it is a good idea to take a pet safety class!

1. Canine First Aid Booklet: A guide for quick reference on basic first aid procedures for dogs.

2. Contact Information: List of emergency veterinary contacts, including phone numbers and addresses.

3. Gauze Pads and Bandages: For covering and protecting wounds.

4. Adhesive Tape: To secure bandages.

5. Scissors: For cutting gauze and tape.

6. Tweezers: To remove splinters or ticks.

7. Antiseptic Wipes or Solution: For cleaning wounds.

8. Hydrogen Peroxide: To induce vomiting (only if instructed by a veterinarian).

9. Activated Charcoal: To absorb ingested toxins (only if instructed by a veterinarian).

10. Rectal/Ear Thermometer: To monitor your dog's temperature.

11. Saline Solution: For flushing eyes or wounds.

12. Cotton Balls or Swabs: For cleaning sensitive areas.

13. Muzzle: In case your dog is injured and might be in pain.

14. Blanket or Towel: To keep your dog warm or to use as a makeshift stretcher.
