You just signed up for your first training class.. now what?

Congratulations on taking the first step towards training your dog! Your trainer should let you know what to bring, but just in case they didn’t, here are some things you should consider bringing to your first dog training class:

  1. Unless specified from your instructor, your dog: Of course, you'll want to bring your dog to the training class. Make sure they're on a leash and collar or harness, and have their ID tag and any required vaccinations up-to-date.

  2. Treats: Bring plenty of small, tasty treats to reward your dog for good behavior during the training class. Soft, bite-sized treats work well for training, as they're easy to swallow quickly and won't distract your dog for long.

  3. Water and a water bowl: Your dog may get thirsty during the training class, so bring a water bottle and a portable water bowl for them to drink from.

  4. Comfortable clothing: Wear comfortable clothes and shoes that you can move in easily, as you'll be walking, standing, and possibly running during the class.

  5. A positive attitude: Remember that training your dog takes patience and a positive attitude. Keep an open mind and be willing to learn from the trainer and your dog.

  6. Any necessary equipment: If your dog needs any special equipment for training, such as a clicker, props, a mat, their crate or kennel, make sure to bring them along.

  7. A notepad and pen: You may want to take notes during the training class to remember what you learned and any tips or advice from the trainer.

By bringing these items to your first dog training class, you'll be prepared to start training your dog and help set yourself and your furry friend up for success.
